August 29, 2005 in Waveland, Mississippi, Katrina happened. She came, she went and took everything she could trying to mimic the Tsunami of December 26, 2004. This quaint historic seaside town of 10,000 people looks the same way that New York looked at Ground Zero. Almost nothing was left in this small town. Never before in history has a United States town been nearly wiped off the map. Many people left upon the first warning of Katrina's vengeance. Some thought it would be just like the other hurricanes. It would hit New Orleans and surrounding areas and miss them once again. They did not have some looter come in and steal their cherished treasures. This decision ended up costing several lives as Hurricane Katrina changed her course and smashed through the town. Boone/Hendricks Disaster Relief, Inc. has adopted Waveland, Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina devastated the town. Waveland's Mayor Thomas Longo will be here to thank Indiana and tell his story. Please come and listen to Mayor Longo, enjoy refreshments and ask questions. Boone/Hendricks Disaster Relief, Inc. is made up of organizations and private citizens who have joined together to pledge our contributed resources to provide support, aid and comfort to victims of a major disaster. This effort is to be coordinated with areas suffering from disaster. The intent is to fill those needs not being met by government and/or insurance funding.
